Countdown to Daytona

Happy New Year, everyone! As you all know, 2018 will be the first NASCAR season without Dale Earnhardt Jr. competing full-time so it will be interesting for us all as we adjust.

I hope that 2018 is great year for you all and that we meet up here every race weekend and just enjoy the racing that we have.

Dale Jr. will be in the broadcast booth beginning at Daytona in July with NBC . . . that will be fun to watch as he grows in that role for hopefully years to come. I personally think that Dale will be great on TV, and I hope that he will be the voice that we need to call NASCAR out on their shenanigans . . . we’ll see what happens.

Daytona is just mere weeks away and I can’t wait!

  1. Not for nothing, but have been a bit preoccupied last few days….. The community i grew up in and now reside in is under siege by the Left Liberals demanding we change the names of two local school in this community 1.) Lee Davis High and StoneWall Jackson Middle school.

Silly me, thinking I could contribute to those here that are very much opposed to any such erasure of our history and legacy after 50 years (Mechanicsville, Va = Cold Harbor, Hanover = Patrick Henry, Richmond = Capital of the Confederacy) etc, etc. But seems my organizational suggestions were seen by the lady owner of the FB Group as aggressive, that I was seen as trying to make the group political….So, after a heated exchange with the owner I am now ban from the group….. The owner does not see the future when the ACLU gets involved here so she has no clue how political this issue will become….

By the way and again not relative to our theme here, the Virginia Legislature has told Governor Northam he will not remove the Confederate Statues on Monument Avenue in Richmond… period…. one of this idiot’s campaign promises…… just saying . .

    1. These crybaby history revisionists piss me off big time, Buckshot. Tearing down and vandalizing statues that have been around for over 150 years just because they are offended? Nobody for the other 150 years had a problem with it? These are history, like it or not and nobody has a right not to be offended! They only want free speech of their liking as they preach and brow beat others about tolerance, but they sure as hell aren’t tolerant of anyone else with a differing opinion or knows the truth about history that they are so willingly ignorant of? This upcoming bunch of kids are some of the biggest damned crybabies that I have ever seen in my 54 years and all they do is bitch and complain about everything, even about things that are none of their damned business and have been around long before they or even their grandparents were ever born. They need to STFU and get a damned life and learn some damned respect or we’ll have to stomp some into them!

        1. Thanks for the comments guys.. at least i feel better about where I am on things like this.
When it all started here locally, my cousin in florida sent this to me…. and it fits in this issue big time:

George Orwell was correct (although off a few years) when he wrote “1984” and predicted

“every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue has been removed, every street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And that process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. Nothing exist except the endless present in which the party is always right.”

Unfortunately 1984 is here in 2017.

        2. Much of this upcoming generation are batshit crazy whiners and crybabies that throw temper tantrums for the dumbest things.

Snowflakes that have a meltdown if anyone dares to disagree with them and they are perpetually offended and raging over stupid shit.

That’s what happens when you have three generations of kids being raised without grades in school, never allowed to flunk, everyone gets a trophy for just showing up because losing hurts their precious self esteem and they were never spanked and their tantrums were always rewarded by the wussed out adults giving in.

          God help us all.

This is the crap that will soon be at the controls over our country and have to take care of us as we age.

We are going to be so screwed.

Willie Nelson is an american icon/treasure…. just don’t let you kids grow up to be Cowboys……He is one of the few whose brand rivals Junior’s – a global good guy… Honestly, have witnessed people in a German bar that could not speak a word of English yet sing along with Willie verbatim on an album……

        Get Well Soon Willie…………

  2. What a great bunch of upstanding citizens Philly has?
They celebrate the super bowl win by trashing, looting and setting fire to their city?
    Morons.
I hope they do not rebuild any of it and then we’ll hear them whine and complain about that too?
My bet is that these “revelers” do not own any of their own property so they have no respect for others that do?

    1. I hate to admit this, but Boston fans are not all that great also. Many years ago I ran a plant pretty much across the street from the old Boston Garden arena and my bindery was on the first floor of the building with pretty big (expensive) windows I got many a call to board them up after the Bruins lost a game.

    2. The morons who do that are not fans or even good citizens….we have such a bad rap but it is not the Philly fans who disrespect everything and everyone…pisses us all off when these idiots carry on like that.

      1. Here in Louisville back in 2013 when our Cardinals basketball team won the NCAA championship we had a few hundred knuckleheads rioting downtown, looting, smashing and burning. It wasn’t anything like this though, not nearly as widespread.

        1. And as people live through the best times of their lives, they don’t often realize it was that at the time as it happened, but they just look back on them that way later after the fact?

    1. Reflections….somber memories ……
February 3, 1959, rock and roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, together with pilot Roger Peterson. The event later became known as “The Day the Music Died”, after singer-songwriter Don McLean referred to it as such in his song “American Pie” in 1971.

  3. Why doesn’t Brainfart just put a for sale sign on NASCAR ? This death from a million cuts is grueling to watch . Also having trouble liking Bowman the way Junior is pushing him on the fans. I think I may have to root for Blaney even if he is in a Ford….at least he has some personality and a wicked sense of humor.

Every day they have had something of his on their NOL home page featuring his big ugly mug and jug head, helmet, car or sponsors?

Sorry, even with Junior retired we ain’t buyin’ it!

    2. My house is always that way in the winter. It was built in 1912 and added onto 4 times with little to no insulation in over half of it. Be careful with the plug in heaters. Make sure that the cord and where it plugs into the wall aren’t getting hot (from wiring problems). I never leave mine on unattended or while I’m sleeping. And of course make sure to have a good smoke alarm installed in every room of the house!

I am still here and checking in. Do get caught up in politics some days. Hello all my friends and Happy Weekend! Guess we are gearing up a little.

    1. Good frikkin’ grief!

      Hawkeye rear steer inspection system?
NA$CAR should have never went to using those types of rear ends in the first place! Keep the straight axle 9″ Ford rear ends without the splined adjustable hubs.

So now it they suspend a team member from now on there is no subtitute allowed to replace that member?
Does that mean no crew chief? No jackman? No tire changer?

      How effing stupid is that?

  4. Further to Bobs comments below, answering my question about Classical Music…. I can relate to that but have to say some of the pieces I find on YOU TUBE just move my soul…. Pieces from Puccini, Verdi by Anna Netrebko (Russian, go figure) and of course Pavarotti (The Mistro) in recent months, I can listen to for hours….. I absolutely love Anna Netrebko’s “Madam Butterfly”. That piece holds my attention, endlessly….. I’ve always been a music buff but historically only Country, R&B, and Rock. If i heard Classical, I’d run, not walk to escape those sounds from my ears… Now, I stop, pause & listen, wanting to learn and expand my new found interest. I actually enjoy sitting in silence, listening….

I know I’m off base for our subject matter here and sincerely appreciate everyone’s tolerance but it is the slow news season, plus I’m not interested in what ever new gimmicks Numbnuts does this year…

Having said that and with forgiveness from everyone here, I am posting for your listening pleasure the piece i referenced earlier… IMO The purity of Anna Netrebko’s voice in Madam Butterfly is incredibly pure and beautiful.. Enjoy, if you will and thank you BBB…..(still miss Alucard damn it…) .

Classic rock, southern rock, doo wop, Philly street corner harmonies….thank God for music in our lives.

          2. As a long time classical music fan, I will guess that the music just relaxes you and allows you to slow down no and get into yourself. At least that is the case for me. matter how rapid the music is. At least that is the case with me. When I was quite young (22 or so) Boston Symphony used to sell cheap tickets to rehearsals I would sit and listen for hours. Erich Leinsdorf was the conductor in those days and he was meticulous and entertaining. I worked nights then and would go to work from the rehearsals and be so mellow that people wondered what I was taking or smoking.LOL

    1. The writer’s puff piece definition of “a star” is someone who won one race to a championship. Never mind that the vast majority of that driver’s career was spent running in the back with the start and parks?

Also, when are they going to shorten the Rolex 24 race? We’ve been told by King Brian that we all have to cater to the wishes of his new millenial fan base that he prefers because they have short attention spans and would quickly lose interest? Hence our heat races now?

King Brian must have dictated this puff piece to sell us his line of bullshit and talk up and promote his leftovers because most of the popular drivers have left?

      1. Here is a suggestion for King Brian, take out all the seats then buy some folding chairs and rent them to people when they enter. You could start a party furniture rental business with them during the offseason and have a going business to fall back on when you finally realize your goal of killing the sport.

  8. In the NOL headlines: Bowyer trying to pick up Junior’s fan base.

Sorry, Spinner, that ain’t gonna happen. We don’t like you. You’re not our way cool Junior.
You are a boring personality and often not very friendly to the fans as I have seen for myself in person.

And Harvick saying that Danican’t started in NASCAR with “a big disadvantage” for having to race 20 year veterans.
WTF? Every sport has that sort of thing too! DUH!

She started out with a top tier team with some of the very best equipment and crew in the sport as compared to all of her predecessors. How in the hell is that a “disadvantage”? She got a HUGE free leg up over most of the male drivers too in the sport who all had to start from the bottom with practically nothing in comparison! She definitely had it 10 times better and easier than Janet Guthrie and most drivers ever did!

Didn’t know Evernhams name then, Evernham is credited with redefining the OTW Gang and how he choreographed their work at the track…..bla, bla, bla…. Also, heard lots of negative comments about Evernham which I always felt hurt Pooh’s brand….. Once he left HMS, his real character came out an he is/was no one you ever wanted to go drink a beer with ……. Just saying
