  1. Just me but…..I would never buy a car whose race engines are so delicate they cannot withstand a missed shift.Probably was Dale’s mistake but he has raced at Pocono for years and never had that problem before…only the 24 car finished….guess everyone but Chase(the future) is R&D now.

I wonder if all the freakin’ changes nascrap has made have any bearing on the crappy cars ?

    1. Not being a wisenhemier Connie, but no engine on the planet can survive a missed shift when it spins the engine to over 4000 RPM+ past it’s design. They literally explode from too much inertia and centrifugal force. The laws of physics at work.

Indy car engines run at 12.000 RPM and they all have small piston bores and crankshaft strokes.
Their shifts only make 50 RPM in difference past 1st gear.

NA$CAR engines have bigger pistons and longer crank strokes and usually run at 8500 RPM but can 9500 RPM max but only for very short times. The shifts make about 3500 RPM in difference past 1st gear.

No NA$CAR engine ever built on the planet can ever survive a 12,000 RPM snap from a downshift from 4th to 2nd gear.

      1. I appreciate the info,Rules…there are probably a lot of fans like me who think a racecar is tougher than a street car

        Like

        1. Race cars are tougher and stronger than street cars.
But both can be blown up from severely over revving the engine.
Race cars have engines built to take much more punishment but the laws of physics limits everything.
Over revving an engine due to engine braking (from gearing down and releasing the clutch) pulls on the connecting rods (tensile load) where they have much less strength. Pushing on them (from being driven down by horse power is compressive strength) there they have lots more strength.

Think of trying to break a nail or a bolt by pulling on it versus pushing down on it.

          1. So braking using the engine and gearing down is always much harder on it than hard acceleration.
Drag race cars (especially) never use their engines for braking.
They clutch it then use the brakes and or a parachute to slow down the cars to avoid engine damage.

  2. 1) Congratulations to Ryan Blaney. He drove his ass off there to get by Kyle Busch and then hold off Kevin Harvick.

    2) I listened to Dale’s post race comments. He talked about how fast the car was and how he was just cruising while backing the corners up. Hmm, maybe he should back the corners up more often.

    3) These are facts: BOTH the driver and crew have made several mistakes this year. If you think that it’s all on the crew, then you’re drinking the 88 flavored kool-aid. Oh, the crew has made several mistakes such as loose wheels and Greg’s just in general shitty crew chiefing. However, the driver has had his share. Take Kansas where he complained of several loose wheels only to find that they weren’t loose after all. Then today’s problem. Did I question his focus? Yes, because it’s a concern of mine. There’s been a few times this year when I’ve thought that he wasn’t doing his best. Talladega being the prime example.

  3. so after reading through the comments about jr , witch completly disscussed me i have to say , but i guess harvick doing the same bad shift almost puting himself out of the race makes him the same as jr , not focused abbcent minded, but no one said anything about that , so it just goes to show it could have happened to any one

    1. Harvick said the engine should have blown but did not…thanked the engine shop….so it happens…still do not think it is all Junior’s fault.HMS has crap cars anymore except for golden boy.

      1. He apparently didn’t over rev it as much or as long as Junior did.
It would have come apart quickly if he did no matter who built the engine.

    1. Here I was wanting to stop watching after Junior was done and got a thrill out of watching a newbie in a Wood Brothers Ford whoop Kryle’s and Harvick’s asses!

    1. Jimmie said that he brakes went out. Junior was fighting the same thing. It may have been why he lost concentration on his shifting. Hell, Junior seems to use more brake than Jimmie, so the #88 probably wouldn’t have made it to the end even had that not happened.

      1. JJ’s right rear brake line broke.
You could see the fluid catch fire as it sprayed on the glowing hot rotor.
Then his car slid in it as did Jamie Mac’s.

  5. I would cautions everyone here not to say things we might regret later…. What Alucard just said about never seen this many mistakes is imo noteworthy…. I don’t believe we know everything about Junior’s recovery… I am sad to see this…I worry we are seeing the initial stages of Dale Jr becoming more like Mohammed Ali than we want to acknowledge ……..

IMO Daytona will be a major tell for where Junior is mentally…

        1. I don’t think that it’s that. I think that he just doesn’t focus on this as much as he used to. Honestly, I think that’s the main reason that he’s retiring. He just doesn’t want to do this anymore. He’s focused on NBA finals, and reality shows, and other shit like that. He might not realize it. Driving in the Cup Series takes full focus and concentration to be competitive. He’s got too many other things going on to do that.

  13. So, Fox in their infinite wisdom decided to air today’s race on FS1 instead of free broadcast TV?
No wonder why nobody is bothering to watch NA$CAR anymore?

    Fucking idiots!

  14. So, Kez moves in at the last lap and takes the win away from Larson in the Xfinity race.
The PRN announcers all gush thst Kez has shed his 46 tace winless streak and he had to race in the little league to do that?

I’d preferred to have seen Larson or Allgaier win it instead win it as Kez has had enough wins already.

I despise Kez as much as Kryle Bouche now.

      1. That and Kez-LIAR-ski when he flat out lied about jumping the restart and passing before the line on Harvick at the Brickyard in the 1st Nationwide race there at the track.

    1. Did not want Larson to win either…they steal points, stage points, playoff points , trophies and money from the Xfin drivers…no wonder they are losing teams.

      1. I see it like this; Kez , Kryle and Harvick all have championships in both series and Larson does not. I’d rather see him get some wins over those other 3 as they have had their wins already and Larson is still a youngster starting out just like Chase. Plus he drives a Chevy.

        1. In spite of the fact that I hate seeing rules piled on top of rules, I would be happy to see one that “discourages” drivers who have been in the Cup series for three or more years from driving more than two or three races in the lower series per season. How about a simple lap down for each of the following: Each race above two or three limit plus one lap down for each year above three you have been in cup . ( Example Harvick on his fourth race in a season would start the race thirteen plus one lap down totaling fourteen assuming the limit was three races.) That would prove they do it for fun not win tallies and prize money.

  15. from jrs tweet , he said the back up car was so much better on balance and speed , he said the rev limiter was not working and the engine blew at 12,ooo rpms , the rev limiter was soppose to stop at 9500 , kaboooom

    1. The rev limiter won’t prevent over tevving when he downshifts from 5th to 2nd gear then letting out the clutch at 200 mph.

That screw up was all driver there. 😉

Junior down shifted from 4th to 1st gear at full straightaway speed.

      1. I’ll probably still watch the NXS races since JRM will be competing in them. Like you were saying, Dale is pretty much the only interest that I have in this sport at all. I’ve honestly got no reason whatsoever to watch Cup races next year. Even if Dale became a commentator, I still wouldn’t watch.

    1. i agree , im so done , the only driver that i would even thing of pulling for was blaney , the 21 is old school driven and is the last iconic number that has any respect to be givin , and that is a long shot for me , but i think im so done , jrm races yes i might watch them race but , it still wont be jr racing , so idk

      1. I am same.. I plan to watch Xfinity next year but I want to see Dale Jr involved, I want to see him at the track in same way Mr H does most times, if not that tell me he is not into it as he claims but then again if there is a bun in the oven this fall, all bets are off ….. just saying

                1. If Chandrika is right, in that Junior wont be there much….. JRM is doomed and Kelley cannot sustain their operation without Jr involved.. Make no mistake about it, it is Junior’s brand that has sustained JRM’s sponsor success. If Junior is smart here, he can transition Jr Nation to JRM, but he must be involved with JRM. He must be at the track participating in their Saturday program.. .With JRM in Xfinity Cup, Junior can continue to be a pain to Brian France… making Xfinity more popular than Monster Cup….. lol

                    1. Exactly and further to the point, if Junior vacates Kelley’s wisdom, he wont be independent for long…… Just saying ….I don’t see Dale Jr as the wisdom that gained his wealth… Kelley is that person, if he vacates Kelley for Amy, he will go the same route as Mikey… Hope that never ever happens but if he is not wise here, it can be sad for our Hero in the years to come….

NASCAR prefers we make a qualifying attempt even though we start last. So I’ll make 1 lap in race setup trying to learn for tomorrow.
